– Following the signing of the protocol, the first next step is to prepare for a joint application with the European Union for securing finances, primarily for the preparation of project-technical documentation and then for the works themselves – Mihajlovic said.
She pointed out that the quick agreement with Butkovic, with whom she met on February 12, within the visit of a Serbian delegation to Zagreb, showed that the two countries could intensify the cooperation in the fields of mutual interest.
– Better infrastructural connections and the removal of non-physical barriers are things Serbia is working on together with all its neighbors, as this contributes to a faster development of the entire region. The Belgrade-Zagreb railway is a part of the railway Corridor 10, which is an important European route, and it is in both countries' interest for the railway to be reconstructed and for the travel time, currently around seven hours, to be shortened – Mihajlovic said.
The Belgrade-Zagreb railway is 412 kilometers long, and the works on reconstruction and modernization of the sections in the territory of Serbia are estimated at around EUR 250 million, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure said.
