(Rasim Ljajic) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic said on Friday, December 15, 2017, that citizens of Serbia had no reason to fear if regulations on marketing of genetically modified organisms (GMO) were amended, as everything would be regulated by law.
Ljajic pointed out that the law would emphasize that growing such organisms was strictly forbidden and that the marketing of GMO would be restricted by bylaws, practically making it impossible, the website of the Government of Serbia announces.
He explained that all that the World Trade Organization was saying was that the marketing of a product couldn't be banned, only limited by certain terms, and added that citizens therefore had no reason to fear, as GMO would not be grown, whereas the marketing would be made practically impossible.
The deputy prime minister said that Serbia had an interest in being a member of the WTO, as practically three quarters of all the countries of the world were members, and added that only 13 countries of the world had no negotiations or ambitions of becoming WTO members, according to his findings.
