Direct flights between China and Slovenia from 2018

Slovenia continues carrying out intensive activities related to securing a direct airline to the People's Republic of China.

The Slovenian state secretary at the Ministry of infrastructure has recently met with representatives of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in Beijing in order for the procedure of establishing direct flights to be stepped up.

Chinese representatives gave an affirmative answer to the Slovenian initiative and it seems that the flights would be carried out to and from the Maribor Airport, whose potentials were also presented in Beijing.

Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Pocivalsek said earlier that the Slovenian government was interested in having a better road, water and air traffic connection with China. Direct flights between Ljubljana and Xi'an should start next year. Hainan Airlines is interested in the flights.

– Slovenia wants to position itself as the main logistics destination within the maritime segment of the Silk Road project – Pocivalsek said.

The Maribor Airport also wants to connect with Chinese airports, as the company has been recently acquired by SHS Aviation. SHS is interested in establishing air routes to Xi'an, Chongqing and Nanchang.

Let us remind that flights from Belgrade to Beijing, through Prague, were established on September 15 and that it was announced that a direct flight would be implemented on the route in 2018.
