The Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment announced on Saturday, November 4, 2017, that 9,500 candidates had applied for the program of retraining in the IT sector up till then.

The contest officially ends on Sunday, at 11 pm. As part of the program, 900 attendees throughout Serbia will go through thorough training courses for working in the fastest growing industry in Serbia by the end of the year, the press release says.

In the first, pilot phase, the initial 94 citizens have been retrained so far.

Over 70% of them have already taken part in professional practice programs at IT companies, with serious prospects of getting employed, whereas more than 10 have already found a job.

The program was initiated at the proposition of the Council of Ministers presided over by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.

It was created following an all-encompassing survey that showed that 118 IT companies planned to employ as many as 961 junior programmers in the next year. It has already achieved great results and has proven to be an efficient tool in reducing unemployment and increasing competences in the IT sector, which currently lack 15,000 to 20,000 experts.
