In order to take part in the tender for strategic partnership or privatization of RTB Bor, the companies interested in it are requiring from the Government of Serbia to have the Port of Prahovo modernized and expanded and the railway from the port to Bor rehabilitated in line with the highest standards, Blic reports.

The state needs more than EUR 30 million for these two jobs.

– After a thorough inspection, the Chinese, Canadian and Russian companies have required the Government to expand and fully develop Prahovo, the industrial port on the Danube near Negotin. They want the port to be expanded so that it could handle a larger number of barges delivering processed materials – says the interviewee of the Belgrade-based daily.

The most obvious example of why modernization of copper concentrate delivery is required, he adds, is to fully utilize the capacities of the smelter.

– When the concentrate reaches Prahovo, it is measured and RTB Bor is obligated to process those amounts per order. However, as dissipation occurs during the unloading, a smaller amount than the one handled in Prahovo reaches Bor. The existing railway was built in mid-20th century and in no way does it meet world standards, which is why goods are often transported by truck from the port to RTB Bor – the Blic interviewee adds.
