The Novi Sad Exit festival, which was held for the 18th time this summer, has contributed more than EUR 150 million to the Serbian economy so far, according to the research performed by TiM Centar from Novi Sad.

Aside from direct economic benefits, the festival has greatly helped promote Novi Sad and Serbia, and this year saw the record attendance, with 215,000 visitors from 60 countries.

Young people from the former Yugoslavian countries were the largest group among the visitors (23.2%), followed by western Europeans (21.6%) and visitors from eastern and southeastern Europe (14.2%). The number of tourists from outside of Europe is constantly growing as well, with this year’s number being larger by a third, amounting to 6.3% of the total number of visitors.

At the same time, they are the biggest spenders, at over EUR 600 per person, followed by guests from western Europe (EUR 532), whereas the local audience spends the least (EUR 312). On average, a tourist spends EUR 431 during the festival and after it. The research shows that a large number of foreigners use the opportunity to also visit Belgrade, as well as smaller destinations in Serbia, where they stay for two to four additional days.

Of the surveyed visitors, two thirds came to Novi Sad for the Exit festival, whereas the remaining third, primarily consisting of local guests, say that they would have visited Novi Sad anyway. As many as 50.8% of the subjects say that their opinion of Novi Sad has improved thanks to Exit, whereas 46.5% say that it has remained as favorable as before.

The average age of the Exit festival audience is 25.6.

The research was conducted during the festival and only the visitors who had bought the ticket were surveyed, whereas the participants, workers, media representatives and representatives of other institutions were excluded from the survey.
