Summer Olympics 2024 in Paris, Los Angeles to host four years later

The International Olympic Committee has officially confirmed that the 2024 Summer Olympics will be hosted by Paris, and that Los Angeles will host the games four years later.

The IOC unanimously confirmed the agreement between the two cities at a congress in Lima. This is the first time in history that the IOC has selected two hosts simultaneously.

Paris and Los Angeles were the only candidates left for the 2024 Olympics, as Budapest, Rome and Hamburg had given up, and the two cities reached an agreement this summer by which Los Angeles withdraws in favor of Paris and takes upon itself the organization of the 2028 Olympics.

The capital of France last hosted the Olympics in 1924, whereas Los Angeles last hosted the games in 1984. For each city, this is the third instance of hosting the biggest sports event in the world.
