Akvamont is in charge of the coastal structures, reconstruction in the area, underwater excavations and works tied to the wharf structures. Hidrotehnika is performing works on the land – buildings, roads and traffic routes. Juzna Backa is in charge of electrical works, whereas Tomi Trade provides support in mechanization, locksmithing and steelworks. Revetments are currently being built at the site, as well as wharves 1 and 2, the latter of which is located on the opposing coast, close to Kostolac A thermal power plant. According to the plan, water structures are to be built first, to be followed by coastal structures. The terminal is meant for bulk cargo and powder cargo, as well as for unloading of cargo of bigger proportions.
Environmental standards were taken into consideration in planning the terminal. The environmental study encompassed full protection of the natural fish breeding area Sugavica, protection of the birds living in this area and the birds crossing the area during migration. The terminal itself is not directly in function of environmental protection.
However, wharf 2 will contain a facility for disposal of ash from Kostolac A and a facility for disposal of gypsum from Kostolac B. Dry ash from two silos from Kostolac A will be pneumatically transported from the location to the wharf, reloaded at the wharf and sent off by vessels down the river. The disposal of 157 thousand tons of dry ash a year is planned. The gypsum made as a by-product of the desulfuring system at Kostolac B will be transported from the power plant to the terminal by road, reloaded and sent off by river, and the projected amount is 105 thousand tons a year. This way, the power plant will reduce the amounts of ash and gypsum at its disposal sites, further enhancing the environmental conditions in the Kostolac area. Fifty thousand tons of equipment for the Kostolac thermal power plant, as well as general cargo, will be reloaded at the terminal annually. The cargo will be transported by road to the targeted locations.
The laying down of piles in currently in progress, as are underwater excavations. There are also preparations for further building of beam formwork, material filling, as well as works not visible on site, related to preparation and production of machinery. The tensioning of prestressed cables and the plate is to follow in the upcoming period, and there will also be works done on the construction of traffic routes and other works on land.
The value of the works is USD 15,860,000 and they are an integral part of the realization of one of the five projects of the first phase of the Chinese loan arrangement. The planned deadline for the completion of the project is early spring 2018.
