Zumtobel has been issued a permit for ground preparation for the construction of a factory, and it should receive the building permit by the end of the month. As Nis city councilor Mihajlo Zdravkovic says, immediately after receiving the building permit, the construction of the factory might start.

– They have received the permit for preparatory works and they are now leveling the ground and performing all the works in line with the permit. I expect the building permit to be issued by the end of the month. Immediately after they receive the permit, the construction of the factory can start – Zdravkovic explains.

He denied the media allegations that Zumtobel will employ 150 workers in Nis with subsidies larger than EUR 50,000 per job, and emphasized that the already adopted Memorandum of Understanding signed with the investor envisaged the employment of around 1,100 workers, whereas nothing was known about the planned subsidies.

Zdravkovic said that the signing of the agreement on subsidies with the Ministry of Economy was expected at the moment, without being able to say what the amount will be.

He didn't specify the time period in which the Austrian company, which produces LED lighting, would have to employ the full capacity of workers.

– The deadline will be defined by the agreement on incentives and more will be known then. We know that the investment will amount to around EUR 30 million on their part – Zdravkovic said.

The opening of Zumtobel was announced in January by the then prime minister and now the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who emphasized that the company would predominantly employ engineers and not inexpensive workforce.
