Test production run initiated in ammunition factory in Uzici – Investment worth EUR 91 million, jobs for 255 people

On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the test run at the ammunition and equipment factory in Uzici, near Pozega, started. This is the first new factory within Serbia’s arms industry in the past 50 years. Following the first stage of the construction, it employs 255 people, and the production program consists of 7.62x39-mm and 9x9-mm ammunition.

The production capacity is 51.5 million pieces of small-caliber and large-caliber ammunition, and the annual production is worth EUR 26 million.

In the first phase, there are 19 facilities with gross area of 9,000 square meters, featuring the complete infrastructure.

– Everything we produce within Serbia’s defense industry is sold in advance – said President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the beginning of the test run.

He emphasized that he expected the export of Serbia’s arms industry to exceed billion euros a year in 2020.

The Uzici factory contains a part of the equipment from Belgium, and Vucic announced that more equipment, for all types of small-caliber ammunition, would be installed before the end of the year.

The construction of the factory began in April 2016, and the investor is the company Borbeni Slozeni Sistemi, a part of Jugoimport SDPR.

Following the completion of the second phase, by 2020, the factory will increase the number of employees to 470, and it will also produce 12.7-mm ammunition. The total investment value of the entire project is EUR 91 million.

The initiation of the production in Uzici was also attended by Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulic, Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Zoran Djordjevic and Chief of the General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic.
