Normal Company to build small hydro power plant Meteh on Komarace river in Plav

The Podgorica-based Normal Company, owned by businessman Zarko Buric, has acquired the building permit for the construction of a small hydro power plant Meteh on the river Komaraca in Plav from the Ministry of Sustainable Development.

The owner of hotels Podgorica, Hilton Crna Gora and City has recently entered the profitable business of raising a mini hydro power plant, Vijesti writes.

– The investor loses the right of construction in line with the building permit issued if it doesn't start raising the small hydro power plant within two years – the decision states.

Aside from the construction of a mini hydro power plant in the municipality of Plav, Buric is interested in the Bistrice watercourse in Bijelo Polje, Vijesti writes. The commission of the Ministry of Economy ranked the offers for the construction of mini hydro power plants in several watercourses in Montenegro last year.

The Bistrica Clean Energy consortium, consisting of BP Hydropower (98%) and Normal Company (1%) from Podgorica, as well as Eucon (1%) from Samobor, Croatia, was selected as the sole bidder for the Bistrica watercourse in Bijelo Polje. Buric owns BP Hydropower.

In order to stimulate investors, the Government of Montenegro has adopted a decree implementing compensation for stimulating electricity production from renewable sources. The amount of the compensation is added to the price of electricity for all consumers and is expressed in cents per KWh. The money is used to pay for electrical energy to preferred producers at stimulative prices.

The Ministry of Economy defined the new amount of the compensation in late January, increasing it from 0.129 to 0.473 cents per KWh, which the citizens are paying for through their electricity bills.
