As reported on the website of the Provincial Government, an agreement was also adopted to be signed for the purpose of the realization of this project by the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education and Scientific Research on behalf of the investor, the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development as the funding body, the BioSense Institute as the beneficiary of the building and the Public Investment Management Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia as the project coordinator.
The construction of the new BioSense Institute building should be realized over a three-year period.
The BioSense Institute, founded by the AP of Vojvodina, is an R&D institute for biosystem information technologies from Novi Sad, which placed first in Europe within the most prestigious invitation of the European Commission, Horizon 2020 – Timing. The invitation was meant for creating European centers of excellence in scientific research, its implementation and creation of innovations. In the competition of nearly 200 projects from throughout Europe, in which the strongest European scientific research institutions took part, the Antares placed far ahead of all the other candidates from all EU countries after two years of evaluation, as the only financed project outside the European Union.
With a budget of as much as EUR 28 million, of which half as EU grants and the other as national co-financing, which has already been secured, Antares' goal is to develop the BioSense Institute into an European center of excellence for advanced technologies in the field of sustainable agriculture. Through the development through synergy of the two most promising sectors in Serbia, IT and agriculture, Antares will focus on the development of sustainable agriculture as the most important segment of the local industry, on the transfer of innovations from research to the economy and on the accelerated economic development of the country.
The realization of this project will employ around 150 new scientists, keep the best young experts in the country and attract the best foreign researchers.
