The Slovakian milk factory Koliba is planning to raise a factory for dairy products made of sheep and goat milk in Rekovac. According to the preliminary agreement, the factory will employ 100 workers, and, in addition to new jobs, it is equally important for sheep and goat breeders to be able to sell the milk.

The construction of the factory was agreed in principle this December, and the Slovakian partners signed a letter on intent in January, thereby initiation preparations for one of the most important project in the Levac area in the past ten years.

– The opening of the factory will secure the marketing and the price of sheep and goat milk. The producers are only required to deliver quality milk – said Nikola Radosavljevic, president of the Economic Development Council of Jagodina.

The Slovakian investor and owner of Koliba, Peter Zan, says that the operations have already been developed in his home country, where the milk is mostly used to produce cheese. He opted for Rekovac due to its potential and a large number of sheep and goat breeders. This is confirmed by Slavoljub Vuletic, president of the sheep and goat breeders association Zlatno Runo.

– According to the association's register, the number of sheep is around 12,000, and there are around 2,000 goats. Our main problem so far has been the fact that we couldn't sell the milk – Vuletic says.

The investment has been supported by the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Agriculture, headed by Minister Branislav Nedimovic. The new factory will be called Koliba Levac. The first 15 workers will soon head for Slovakia to undergo training for working in the Rekovac milk factory.

Peter Zan believes that his investment in Rekovac will prove profitable for both him and the breeders. His plan is to at first buy 3,000 to 5,000 liters of milk a day and use it to produce cheese and other dairy products.
