Construction of Belgrade-Sarajevo motorway to start as soon as 2017? – Turkey ready to finance joined project of Serbia and B&H

The proposition of the high-speed route between Sarajevo and Belgrade should be defined by the end of the year, and the hope is that the works might start in 2017, said Mirko Sarovic, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of B&H, for the Klix portal.

After the talks between Mirko Sarovic and Rasim Ljajic about the possibility of the construction of the motorway at the Trilateral Trade Committee of B&H, Serbia and Turkey this October, numerous meetings, negotiations and initiatives followed.

Sarovic said in his interview for Klix.ba that, regarding the development of the trilateral agreement, the Minister of Economy of Turkey, Nihat Zeybekci, expressed the readiness of Turkey to help one of the projects which would connect B&H and Serbia in terms of infrastructure. Sarovic and Ljajic informed the relevant ministries and the Council of Ministers and the Government of Serbia of this. Everything is still in the initiative stage, and the decisions are yet to be made.

Turkey has offered to finance 100% of the project agreed between B&H and Serbia, including the accompanying documentation, and the initiative has been taken by the Minister of Communications and Transport of B&H, Ismir Jusko.

– At the last meeting I attended, Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said that their priority was for the high-speed route to go from their Corridor 11 from Pozega towards Uzice and further, towards Visegrad, and that the B&H side was expected to decide whether it was acceptable for B&H – Sarovic said.

Even though there are two options present (the first one is for the road to be heading north through Bijeljina, and the second one is for it to go through Visegrad), the Minister of Communications and Transport of B&H should soon carry out the necessary consultations with the Ministry of Transport of the Federation of B&H and Republika Srpska and define the potential route. Following the agreement between B&H and Serbia on the route and the decisions thereof, Turkey will be notified. The country should then put its mechanisms in motion and reach the appropriate decisions, Klix reports.
