The delegation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, which financed the preparation of the feasibility study for the construction of the waste water treatment facility with a million euros, is visiting Nis.
– Our aim is to see how the projects where we are partners are being implemented. We have seen the project preparation of the technical documentation for the construction of the waste water treatment facility and the collector and we are satisfied with how the job has been done. Sweden supports all projects which contribute to environmental protection through its programs – said Johannes Oljelund, general manager for international developmental cooperation, at the City House.
The construction of the facility is the largest environmental protection program in Serbia, and the funds are to be provided by the EU pre-accession instruments.
– Once the facility has been completed, Serbia's waste water treatment capacities will increase by 50%. More than 20,000 tons of sludge from the Nisava will be removed each year, and the plan is to also revitalize and build more than 35 kilometers of sewer – says Milan Stevanovic of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Ivan Petkovic, head of Projektni Centar, emphasized that Nis did everything in its power to have everything realized on time.
– The planning documentation is to be prepared in 2017, following which we will apply for the funds. The tender is to be placed in 2018, and the construction is expected to begin in 2019 – Petkovic added.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the City of Nis and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection was also announced at the meeting. The ministry will donate a million euros to the City for the complete project and technical documentation before the tender.
