Ikarbus completing 40 buses – Design of new prototype launched in cooperation with Mercedes
The former giant of the old Yugoslavia, Zemun's Ikarbus, is back on the road to success. The factories of our largest bus manufacturer are working at full steam, and currently producing around 40 buses.
“Already on Wednesday, 10 new buses will be delivered to the City Transport Company Belgrade. They are Solo buses, made on a MAN self-propelled low-floor chassis”, explains General manager of Ikarbus Aleksandar Vićentić.
Twenty more buses are “on the line” being produced for the CTC.
“Our quality and price has allowed us to dominate the local market. We produce nine buses for Novi Sad, one for Đerdap and two for Lastra”, says Vićentić.
A large project with Mercedes continues. The design of another prototype has started, this time on a new chassis with the "Euro 6" engine. This kind of engine is required in all European Union countries and in many non-EU countries and has been one of the main obstacles for Ikarbus in selling its vehicles abroad in the past year or two.
“After 10 years, we are producing the first intercity bus for a known customer - Ariva. It is a modern bus we produce on a Mercedes chassis with the "Euro 6" engine. This is a big challenge for all of us in Ikarbus and we must do our best to show that we are also able to make this kind of bus”, explains the director of the Zemun factory.
Around 300 staff in Ikarbus facilities have their hands full of work, because other than making new buses, they also receive many orders for repairs. A flotilla of 18 flexible buses just arrived from CTC ready for a major overhaul.
