Largest organic cattle farm in Europe to be in Curug – Imlek receives 18 tons of milk every day

The Curug-based agricultural company Buducnost, which operates within the Global Seed system, delivers 18 tons of organic milk to Imlek every day. The milk delivered from the largest cattle farm in the Balkans, with about 2,400 animals, is sold at the market as “belo organik” (“white organic”).

The plan production in Curug involves around 1,700 hectares, and the products made here are also organic and primarily used to feed the cows at the farm.

The general manager of Global Seed, Sasa Vitosevic, and the assistant production manager, Jovan Popovic, say that their vision is to turn the system into the largest organic cattle farm in Europe.

The cycle includes an animal feed mixing machine and a biogas facility, where the leftover plants from the farm are used to produce electricity. They are currently expanding the biogas facility capacities, and when the works are completed, the electricity production capacity will have been doubled.

Global Seed intends to raise a farm for organic chickens and hens in Gospodjinci, where organic eggs and organic poultry will be produced.

The president of the municipality of Zabalj, Cedomir Bozic, says that the acquisition of farms in Curug and Gospodjinci by Global Seed is an example of a successful privatization.

– Formerly ruined farms are now stable and operating. Buducnost Curug has gone from being ready to close down to being the largest producer of organic milk in this part of Europe – he said.

– The local self-government will still cooperate with Global Seed in developing and expanding organic production capacities in our municipality, as this company is highly important to the economic development of this area – Bozic said.
