The German meat producer Tönnies will raise its first farm on the territory of Banat, and the exact location will be known next week, said Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic. The media speculate about the following potential locations: Plandiste, Secanj, Odzaci, Calma and Apatin.

Politika writes that the construction won't be able to start before next spring, by which time Serbia needs to meet one of the investor's requirements and stop vaccinating pigs against swine fever, as this is blocking the export of meat to the EU market.

Nedimovic confirmed that Serbia intended to stop vaccinating pigs against swine fever by the end of 2016, but that a compensation fund needed to be formed first, to compensate producers for the potential losses in case of the reappearance of the disease.

– We need to stop vaccinating in any case, and the German producer is also interested to know how far we've come in solving the problem – the minister said.

As it was announced recently, Tönnies intends to raise a total of 10 farms and invest around EUR 300 million in the next 4 to 5 years.
