Leoni planning 800 new employments in Prokuplje by the end of 2016 – The municipality pays for a two-month training of 250 unemployed at the factory

The president of the municipality of Prokuplje, Aleksandar Simonovic, signed, on Wednesday, July 27, an agreement with the German company Leoni on the training of 250 unemployed for working at the factory.

– The municipality of Prokuplje has set aside RSD 6.5 million for a two-moth training of workers, who will continue to work in the factory for at least six months after the completion of the training, and many will be permanently employed – Simonovic said for Beta.

According to him, 250 workers are already in training at Leoni and, by the end of the year, an additional 250 will have been involved in the program. By the end of April 2017, a total of 850 unemployed people will have been trained for working in the factory.

Clemens Sachs, managing director at Leoni, a renowned producer of cables for the automotive industry, said that there were plans for the opening of another factory in Prokuplje, which would lead to the employment of an additional two to three thousand workers from the municipality.

– Our goal is to make the Leoni branch in Prokuplje and in Serbia the most successful one in the world, and by opening a third factory and employing an additional 3,000 workers, it will become the second in size within our group – Sachs said.

Leoni has production facilities in 20 countries and employs 75,000 workers.

The Prokuplje facility currently employs around 2,000 workers, and the new agreement will provide the opportunity for permanent employment to 850 more unemployed persons by the beginning of next year .
