Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic stated that the potential for organic production in Serbia wasn't sufficiently exploited and added that areas under organic plantations had grown by around 65% in 2015, relative to 2014.

– We are not satisfied with the degree of exploitation of the potential for this type of production, because Serbia has areas which are perfect for organic production of fruit – Bogosavljevic Boskovic said and added that the Ministry of Agriculture supported and assisted organic production through subsidies for the establishment of plantations, procurement of seedlings, poles, anti-hail nets, construction of processing facilities, all in the amounts 40% larger than those for the conventional production.

She especially pointed to the results of the Fruit and Berries program, jointly realized by the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark, which resulted in the procurement of tractors and attachment vehicles, new fruit plantations, education of 10,500 and more than 800 new jobs, especially for women and the young, which amounted to around EUR 5 million invested in the production of fruit.

Nenad Janicijevic, owner of the cold storage plant at Donje Grgure, who exports more than 1,500 tons of organic fruit, pointed out in his talks with the minister that organic production was the future of Serbia and the Toplica District, but also that it was necessary for the manufacturers to join forces, to be in constant communication with agronomists and the competent departments.
