Everything ready for the Science Technological Park in Novi Sad – Investment worth EUR 13 million, jobs for 3,000 engineers

All the preparations necessary for Vojvodina and Serbia to get one of the biggest and most significant educational institutions for the development of advanced technologies, the Science Technological Park (STP), have been competed, stated Rade Doroslovacki, dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad.

The agreement on the second phase of the construction of STP was signed at the beginning of June, and the construction is expected to be completed in mid-2018. The value of the investment is EUR 13 million.

STP will, as Doroslovacki said, have an area of 29,000 square meters, of which classrooms and laboratories of the Faculty of Technical Sciences will take up 10,000 m2, whereas the rest of the space is meant for companies founded by the Faculty's professors. It is expected that, after the project has been completed, there will be jobs for 3,000 new engineers.

– Our faculty participated with EUR 3.5 million in the total investment, whereas EUR 9.5 million came as a loan by the European Investment Bank, which will be repaid by the Republic of Serbia – Doroslovacki explained and added that the investment would pay off several times over, as it enabled the employment of engineers, the creation of new companies and further development.

The Faculty of Technical Sciences is known locally and abroad as an institution which not only educates future engineers, but also creates new IT companies.

– The benefit of the cooperation between the Faculty and the economy is mutual. This is a rare example, even on a world scale. The cooperation led to the founding of around a hundred companies, mostly in IT. We had educated the engineers who founded the companies in which our professors work now. Some professors spend 49% of their work hours at the company, and 60% at the faculty, whereas for some others, it's 70%-30% - Doroslovacki said.
