Foundation stone laid for Mei Ta factory in Baric - EUR 60 million investment to create jobs for 1,400 workers

The foundation stone for the Chinese-French factory Mei Ta in Baric, which will be producing parts for cars and engines, was laid Saturday, 2 April 2016. This investment, valued at EUR 60 million, will create about 1,400 new jobs.
The cornerstone was laid by Mei Ta Vice President Gijom Alar and Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali in the presence of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic who said that that was a big day not only for Baric and Obrenovac, but also for Serbia as a whole.
- By the way, the last investment of this kind in Belgrade was made in 2005 by Ball Packaging in Zemun. But that factory too was 10 to 20 times smaller in value and size than this new one - Vucic said and added that Mei Ta was supplying a third of the world with its compressors for the automotive industry, stressing that contractors in Serbia would commence the work on Tuesday.
- This means that components for the world's best cars will be produced in Serbia - Vucic underlined and noted that the Government would help by investing EUR 22.7 million in the project.
The deadline to complete all the works is July 2017. Once finished, this facility will occupy a surface area of 40,295 square meters on the former site of Prva Iskra factory in the Industrial Zone in Baric near Obrenovac. The contractor is Energogroup that also drew the designs.
A Memorandum of Understanding for the investment of China's Mei Ta Group in the construction of factory in Obrenovac was signed on the premises of the Serbian government in November 2014. The Mei Ta Group already has factories in France, Slovakia, Germany, China and India.
