Opel Astra declared 'Car of the Year'


New Opel Astra is the 'Car of the Year 2016', which means that it has won one of the most renowned awards in the automotive industry. A jury consisting of 58 eminent automotive journalists from 22 European countries rewarded Astra with a total of 309 points against 294 for Volvo XC90 and 202 for Mazda MX-5, Open said in a release.
The 'Car of the Year 2016' trophy was handed to Opel CEO Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann by COTY President Hakan Matson on the night before the first press day at the 86th International Car Show in Geneva.
For the award, Astra competed against seven other COTY finalists. Over 40 new car models, ranging from sports roadsters to premium limousines and SUVs were among the initial candidates for this trophy.
