"Elektromreža Srbije" introduced system for management of electricity market - investment worth 3m EUR

Public Company "Elektromreža Srbije" (EMS) has introduced the new system for management of electric market, which is in accordance with the standards of European Union. Introduction of this system into EMS cost 3m EUR and it was financed by European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR).

According to the words of the coordinator of the project for introduction of this system, Miloš Mladenović, this is a precondition for liberalization and opening of the electricity market.

- The wholesale market for qualified consumers is going to be opened on January 1, 2008, and Serbia must be technically ready, which is enabled by this system - Mladenović pointed out.

He explained that the new system for management of electricity market had been integrated with the system for dispatcher management, system for remote collecting of accounting and measuring data, as well as with the system for registration of the work programs of the market participants.

According to the words of the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Aleksandar Popović, this system is very important because EMS, thanks to the geographic position of Serbia, is the key system for transit of electric energy to Europe and, therefore, it must use the up-to-date technology.

He has reminded that that Serbian company is the second system operator in Europe in number of borders it covers (eight). According to the words of Popović, year 2015 is the deadline for complete liberalization and opening of the electricity market, and Serbia will be ready for that much earlier.
