To consumers' satisfaction, the meat packing industry in Serbia is staying without a cheap raw material on which they've been making huge profits for years. As the daily Politika reports, new regulations that came into force January 1st forbid manufacturers to import and use the worst category of mechanically separated meat (MSM) in the production of wieners, sausages, salamis...
This information was confirmed to Politika by Veterinary Administration officials who noted that "these regulations are introducing stricter criteria for manufacturers to ensure better quality of semi-finished and finished meat products.

In 2013 alone, the top five manufacturers imported about EUR 13.5 million worth of raw material for meat products, mainly from European countries - Austria, Spain, Denmark, Hungary, and even Bosnia-Herzegovina.
