According to a report by the market research company BMI Research, freight transport in Serbia will register growth in 2016 and improve upon 2015 growth rates, primarily thanks to export growth and investments in infrastructure.

As announced, Serbia's freight sector will be successfully developing in the period 2016-2019.

Factors to contribute to this development are GDP growth (0.1% in 2016 but rising to 4.3% in 2019), export growth, as well as huge investments in rail infrastructure which is the backbone of freight transport in Serbia.

According to the published data, rail freight transport in Serbia will grow 7% a year on average in 2016 through 2019.

It is also mentioned in the report that Serbia, with the support of the European Union, expeditously started working on the renovation of roads damaged in May 2014 floods, as well as on flood preventive measures, thus proving it has grasped the importance of this sector. Consequently, BMI Research forecasts a 5.4% growth of road freight transport until 2019.
