The Law which limits employment of foreign residents in Montenegro and whose implementation was delayed due to tourist season has become effective as of today, the Ministry of labor and social care. The Law provides priority to local workforce and instructs employers to hire only if the National Employment Bureau cannot provide required staff or if the registered ones refuse a job.

The regulation was adopted before the tourist season but its implementation was delayed due to turbulent reaction of employers who estimated the system is not ready for the change of that kind of a regulation.

The Law proscribes sanctions for employers in case they release an add before obtaining a confirmation from the national Law for employment.

Montenegro is a leader in the region for the number of seasonal workers. In six countries of the region last year, 57.500 working permits for foreign residents was issues, 31.000 of which in Montenegro.
