Will carbon-dioxide catcher save the planet from global warming?
Due to exhaust of huge carbon-dioxide quantities, the Earth is warming which has been confirmed by recent temperatures: global temperature measuring devices show that 2014 was the hottest year since the beginning of measuring. In an attempt to stop global warming, German physician Klaus Lakner developed “catcher” of carbon dioxide.
A scientist of German origin has recently started managing the Center of negative carbon dioxide emission of the University of Arizona. During a long work, he developed synthetic material which absorbs carbon dioxide and then releases it again.
At the recently held conference of the American physical association (APS), he represented a membrane made of marvelous material which, Lakner claims, absorbs carbon dioxide thousand times more efficient than trees. His idea is to make artificial trees of this material which will resemble giant, vertically placed, tennis rackets equipped with modules of mattress size.
Membrane is made of so-called resin of ion change. These substances are used in the systems for water softening so that calcium would be extracted from “ hard” water. To be used in carbon dioxide catchers, a membrane is impregnated with sodium carbonate. When it gets to carbon-dioxide, sodium bicarbonate is made, the main components of baking powder. After approximately half an hour, membrane filter is saturated.
