Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said that an agreement with Germany's Tonnies on the construction of first five farms in Serbia was agreed to be signed in less than a month.

- Each of these farms will have a capacity of 2,500 sows, which means that every farm can produce 80,000 fattened pigs annually. In the first phase, there will be additional 400,000 fattened pigs a year for the production of pork meat - Bogosavljevic Boskovic told RTS.

She reminded that the plan was to build 20 such farms in the coming years, stressing the importance of cooperation with Serbian farmers.

The Government of Serbia and German company Tonnies, the biggest meat producer in Europe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Belgrade on April 27.

This German company is going to invest about EUR 420 million in production in Serbia, and its intention is to produce 3 million fattening pigs.
