Corn harvest to end, record yields

Corn harvest ended on 90% of area, yields are record and total 7, 5 tons per hectare, secretary of the Association for agriculture, Nenad Budimovic, said for Tanjug.

- We expect that on area bigger than a million hectares, production totals some 8- 8, 5 million tons of maize – Budimovic said stating the estimations and reports from terrain.

He added the 3- 3,5 million tons of maize extra will remain.

Budimovic outlined that this year there are no problems with micro toxin which mainly appear in dry years and this year was not such. Apart from that, silos are well-prepared for maize.

- Wheat was planted at 550.000 ha, with a forecast that 600.000 ha will be planted and farmers opted for bigger areas under wheat than last year since the price was good for those crops during the whole year – Budimovic said.
